Bought this set to use as surround back for the Sonos Arc and Sub that I already have. I set them up independently at first so I could hear them alone. The Sonos app simplifies the initial setup! In 10 minutes or less I added them to my home network and they automatically did their own firmware update. I was blown away by the sound quality and dynamic range of these speakers when playing music alone. They have really decent bass and overall great sound quality. Then the Sonos app prompted me to add it as surround sound without any action on my part. I placed them over 10 feet from the main arch and subwoofer which was under my TV at the front of the living room. Aside from the bloody amazing sound quality I've come to expect from a Sonos system. I bought them on purpose as I lack the cables I would need to run with traditional surround sound systems. Because they operate on the 2.5GHz Wi-Fi Wireless G-Band, they can be placed almost anywhere within 100-150 feet of your Wi-Fi router, and so far I've had no issues with that audio syncing etc. The app has a very good practical volume controls and other feature settings that allow me to control the levels for the two One SL speakers as a pair in surround mode (as well as the Arc and subwoofer). I can't express how helpful this is! Depending on the location of your TV, you can increase the volume of the surround or subwoofer, etc. You can even set different surround levels for music or TV playback. Once I set up the system properly. I've played a couple of outdoor shows in full surround sound. The entire system with Arc and subwoofer creates an authentic and sometimes surreal surround sound that mimics what you hear in a 7.1 system. Sound bounces off the walls and ceiling, hitting you from every direction with such precision in frequency and timing that it feels like there are speakers all around you! One thing to note: Don't expect your system to play Dolby Atmos content if your TV doesn't have built-in Atmos content playback capability. My 65" Vizio only plays Dolby Digital+, 5.1 and PCM (2ch Stereo). Despite this, the system still sounds like it's playing Dolby Atmos sound when the on-screen content is in Dolby Digital+ or standard 5.1 format.I was so impressed with the quality of the Sonos One SL speakers as a standalone pair that I'll probably buy another set for my bedroom now.The nice thing is that you can have one speaker in one room independently of another And once you have them installed in your home, you can easily group them together so all rooms play the same content on the fly, and guests can easily stream their own content to your system if you give them access grant on your wifi..The packaging of Sonos products is always excellent. They are quite expensive compared to other high end surround sound systems but believe me me they are worth it. The aesthetics and low profile of the Arc, Sub and One SL make for a very clean setup. It is best not to lay cables to all speakers! All you have to do is connect the Arc to your TV's HDMI ARC port via HDMI. I believe the One SL needs a Sonos connection if you want to use them as standalone TV speakers. Overall I would highly recommend them to anyone. You are absolutely worth it!
