I got this mainly because I thought I could raise a kite with it. I found it doesn't have the power to launch the kite in good winds due to the large diameter. So I still have to retract the kite by hand, but at least the line can be "rolled up" quickly and easily with this device. Although it's ideal for this only if you have two people, one to pull the line and the other to rotate this device to save the line. I also thought it would be handy to release the line. That's true, but only if you slowly let go of the leash. If you let go of the line quickly (in high winds) the drag (your thumb/palm on the reel) will cause friction burn very quickly. It really takes the right friction brake, a lever you push to slow down. With all that, it's well worth the money as a handy fishing line storage device.
