We've had other brands, they're all bullshit, their protective layer breaks down over time (and then not that much time, certainly not the same as their guarantees imply they should be lots last for years). This one is the only good thing. How these other brands get thousands of good reviews I don't understand. This costs a little more, but that's literally the difference between a product that works and a product that just doesn't protect your mattress. It's not a problem: buy this one. We bought 2 for our bed (I sweat when I sleep and over time it soils the protector; it still works fine but my wife wanted it replaced with a new one) and 2 for our daughter's mattresses (their bed and cot for guests who go under). I read reviews from other buyers who said they didn't like it and I'm stunned. I just poured water on the part of this thing that wears the most, the part I've slept and sweated on for the last 15 months, and the water didn't get through. Now it might need to be washed, even if it's never been washed (I know, I know; don't judge), and if so, then maybe if you wash it properly, at least, this one will fail. But even if it is, I still don't understand the comments that it leaked new and unwashed, I just don't understand how that even happens. All I know is other brands have ripped with just one use and this one works great for me.
