Review on AKG Pro Audio P420 Dual Capsule Condenser Microphone - Black: Superior sound recording performance by Mitch Wright

Incredible Microphone Microphone

Firstly I do voice acting and voice acting as a side job. The only thing that seemed to affect the quality of my work was the noise from my recording setup. Despite using a very good AudioTechnica ATR2020 USB stick, all the fans used on my workstation ran in the background. I set up my own recording booth lined with soundproof tiles and covered with a lid, but I still heard all the noise. Switch to the laptop to see if the problem was ambient or mic audio - boom, it was digital audio through the mic. After doing a lot of testing, I decided to try XLR with XLR input on USB. I tried a few but didn't like the vocal tones or noise level so took a chance on buying this one as it was on sale and didn't fit my budget. Everything worked great with this and the Neewer XLR to USB converter. Except for forgetting to turn on the xlr converter - powered by the way - I've had no problems with it. The sound quality pairs well with my alto voice and although I live near a busy main street, the directivity is perfect for keeping outside noise out of my recording. I use an Altron pop filter housing to keep things as quiet as possible and have been very happy with the vo's overall results. Just like my customers, because the booking is a real indicator for me. Fewer auditions + more clients = win. You still need to know how to remove noise floor, but overall this is a fantastic mic for any intermediate level actor or podcaster.
