I already have cameras but my DVR is NOT Amcrest dead. The hardest part was disconnecting the cables from the old DVR and then plugging them into the Amcrest DVR. The sockets on this unit are new and it took a little more effort than I remember. Setup was easy, it automatically checked for new firmware and immediately showed it on the TV screen. Amcrest offers P2P setup as an option to go through the whole static address setup and then port forwarding setup for the DVR's internal IP address. Part of the setup involves setting your password and then giving you 2 QR codes to scan with your smartphone. One is to find the app in the play store and the other is the serial number to connect your device to the P2P network that your DVR will broadcast to its server if you choose to do so. Live browsing and playback over a P2P network is better than just live browsing with port forwarding and searching with your IP address like I did.
