I bought this mattress because it was the cheapest at Revain and cheaper than the cheapest at Walmart. (Honestly) the reviews were mixed, but I gave it a try. to address some of the basic things I've read in the reviews. A) Yes, there was a strong smell when I first opened the box. In my opinion all new things like this will have one. I'm a non-smoker and I feel my sense of smell is relatively good and the smell wasn't so bad that I didn't order it again. After the mattress had completely fluffed up, it was practically gone. B) At first it seemed like my mattress wouldn't fully expand, but it did. I went back and fluffed it up a few times, flipped it on its side and gave it a little shake to help. It was probably ready in about 5 hours but I gave it a full 24 hours before using it. C) It's not as firm as some of the other children's mattresses, including the one we have for our little one, but it's still pretty firm. My husband and I lay on top of him and he immediately bounced back. It's really convenient. We were moving one child who was sharing a bed and he seemed to enjoy it and is taking the change well. It's perfect for a standard bed. The leaves stick to it well. The only thing is that it is foam, sensitive to liquids. We have a waterproof mattress cover (cheapest on Amazon btw, it's bamboo or something) and it works great. I highly recommend it, it's great but for the money and I don't think the quality is bad despite the price being low. I would definitely buy another one.
