If you read the headline and thought yes, the bag has a laptop compartment. But unfortunately there is a pocket in the laptop compartment that closes with a zipper. This bag faces the back of the bag. As a result, this zipper "jams" between the laptop and the body when carrying a bag. I now have some ugly scratches on the zipper pull on my MacBook and it took me a while to figure out where they came from. Laptops with plastic cases may be more durable, but I suspect they'll get too scratched sooner or later. The bag itself is great, I like it very much. But for me it's no use if I can't transport my laptop in the padded compartment.
