They are really comfortable but to be honest the material is quite thin. I don't know how he can survive a day of skiing. Our daughter doesn't wear layers so to be honest she's always cold when we're in the barn in winter. I was hoping they would be thin enough for her to slip on, but unfortunately no luck. That's not a bad mark for the product - it won't layer at all! However, she loves them as pajamas and likes to come home from the barn and take a warm shower and wrap herself in it. She says they are warm enough for her. It gets hot very quickly and they keep it warm but don't fry it. This is a great article in my book. I don't know if they would be warm enough if you had a child who really needs to warm up, but we're happy. Good light heat.
