Review on GRADO GW100 v2 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones - Open-Back & On-Ear Design by Nathan Skipper

Revainrating 3 out of 5

My favorite open bluetooth headphones, but why such a low rating? Great with a problem :)

I'm not new to the audio world and I know what I'm looking for, so "OPEN BACK" with bluetooth with a unique sound that doesn't belong to Sennheiser, AKGS, Bayer, Audio Technia, BW, Sony and more from an endless list of 99.999% open-back headphones, from low to high. So to compare this to other Bluetooth devices - Sony WH/WF XM3 - I also have both. The GW100 V2 literally ran great for less than a week. In terms of audio quality it tops the Sony WHXm3s and has names - remember this is an open back so from the start no closed-back headphones can touch it - this applies to almost all other open, closed and open backs don't apply even for the same proposal in terms of natural sound reproduction. Anyway, what is wrong with the GW100 V2 or the kit I received? Well I left it charging and tried to use it later but no sound came from the right side via Bluetooth. I've spent hours trying to reset and reconnect, shut down and restart on both PC and mobile to no avail. Rebooted all systems and tried other devices but still no success. Wired headphones plugged in and they work. So Bluetooth is bad. After that I connected the charger and let it work for an hour with only one side working - the battery died but nothing worked. After a while I cranked the volume all the way up but still no luck. Shut down and restarted. Now the volume on the headset and on the playback device is set to maximum, and suddenly the right side works. With? As if some kind of discharge was imminent. Well I won't be playing this crazy game next time so I'll exchange it and return the current device. Maybe they can figure out what exactly is going on with this block. But if your device doesn't have this problem, then you'll really enjoy great sounding open back headphones that handle both rock and trance music/vocals well. Even if your source device has Dolby audio, it will make any of your headphones shine - often too much - which unfortunately makes unique headphones no longer unique.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Good but not great
