Very good light but the automatic 24/7 function is not very good. However, you can customize it. So if you're willing to put in the time, you can make it more suitable for a planted tank. The remote control and all of the programmable functions require considerable training, but they work. For timed use, just on or off, they're great and plants grow like crazy. I also managed to make the memory setting for 3 of my tanks a bit brighter and it remembers that setting every time it's turned on. All memory is stored in the flashlight, not the remote control. I want the remote controls to be "keys" so that if I change something, all the Finnex lights in the room don't react immediately. I have to keep my hand between the remote and the light I want to set up, or turn the others off while I program them. Overall good light.
