I have used this in two different shows for a great fire effect. It pays to have two different lights and then set them to slightly different modes to make the fire look more realistic. This was in the back of the 350+ seat cinema - so for the price they're pretty eye-catching. (More noticeable in low light of course, but a bit noticeable in brighter scenes.) Note that if you can find the right power supply you don't need batteries and can use the adapter to control this with DMX lights. Blackboard.
