Just expect value for money protection. I am a motorcyclist and would never wear unsafe headgear. I first bought this helmet to ride fun battery powered devices like scooters and unicycles. I think it offers adequate protection for such slow devices at 35mph and below. I couldn't imagine speeding down the freeway in this helmet, even with the DOT rating. If you don't like less gear when riding but want to stay within the law, that's fine. The helmet met all my expectations for the above purpose and would only recommend buying it with scooters etc.
