I was looking to replace an Aprilaire 560 Series humidifier that was draining excess water into a drain pan in my basement. I felt like I was wasting 750 gallons of water every year, not to mention having problems with clogged floor drains if I didn't clean it out from time to time. I was hesitant to try the 400 series design, which was reported to be just as effective with no water loss, but I ended up doing it. God I'm glad I tried. Pulling out the old model and putting this one in was easy. The 400 Series model required a hole that was literally a quarter inch wider (what was Apriler thinking?), but there was enough room in the existing hole to fit snugly. I got lucky! I used all existing connections and it worked in less than 30 minutes. I have a Wi-Fi thermostat (Ecobee) and can control the humidity; I didn't notice any difference compared to the old model, so I have to give the Aprilaire credit for being excellent at retaining moisture in the winter. Plus, there's no more wasted water or clogged drains. One day I replaced the filter and checked the base to make sure it didn't show any signs of bacteria (nothing visible!). Stop wasting water - buy this model.
