Review on Cleer Audio Roam NC True Wireless 🎧 Headphones: 15 Hour Battery, Noise Cancelling, Bluetooth, Cleer+ App by Evelin Barnett

Superb build quality, overly buggy firmware...

These Cleer Roam true wireless noise canceling headphones are a disappointment. The build quality of the headphones is excellent, the ear tips are made of textured plastic and the charging case feels heavy and solid. The earbuds fit well in the case and are held in place with a magnet, after which the case closes with a nice click. Unfortunately, the user experience of the headphones leaves a lot to be desired. After receiving the headphones, I downloaded the Cleer+ app and updated the headphones to the latest firmware (I say this because I hope Cleer will solve all my update issues). I ran into a couple of stubborn bugs that forced me to put them aside for my old headphones. About every third or fourth use, the headphones (sometimes the left ones and sometimes the right ones) switch off after a few minutes. After confirming that the charging process is not an error (the battery level can be checked in the Cleer+ app), the headphones cannot be switched back on manually. They only respond again after being placed in and removed from the case, after which they may function normally again for a few hours or switch off again after a few more minutes. According to the Cleer+ app, they are also fully charged here. It's annoying enough if you only use them around the house, but when it's 15 minutes into a 7-mile run and you haven't brought your suitcase, it's a deal breaker. I also found the active noise cancellation and background mode extremely unstable. After double-tapping the controls (as set in the app to launch the appropriate mode), a voice prompt tells you that the mode has been activated, and about 30% of the time there is no effect. Whether ANC or Ambient, nothing happens and you have to switch back to the desired mode until it works. I want to love these headphones but until a firmware update is released to fix what I believe is a bug and not a hardware glitch I just can't recommend them.

Pros
  • ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION: Active noise cancellation technology provides optimal cancellation of various environmental noises, enriching your experience wherever you are. Enjoy uninterrupted work or stay in touch with others without taking off your headphones.
Cons
  • Something different
