Good budget mouse pad but gel pad is harder than expected

Bought this mouse pad based on the price and reviews. This is a decent mouse pad; However, the gel pad is stiffer than expected and of course makes me uncomfortable. I find that I change my wrist position throughout the workday as my wrist starts to hurt after a long time. I hope that over time the gel pad will become softer and more comfortable to use.
