Review on ๐Ÿƒ Polar OH1+ Optical HR Sensor: Bluetooth/ANT+ Connectivity for Accurate Heart Rate Tracking by Jessica Williams

It does its job well, but with a few disadvantages

I got this heart rate monitor mainly for running and cycling. There are some things I like about it, but there are some things I don't like/that I think potential buyers should know. For comparison, I'm looking at another Polar product, the H10, an ECG-based chest monitor. Pros: Turning it on and off is pretty easy. That's probably one of its biggest advantages over the H10.- It's pretty forgiving where you put it. That means you don't have to place it on a specific part of the arm. Works anywhere in the forearm and bicep area. It connects pretty smoothly. Once I set it up on my phone, all I have to do is turn on OH1+ and it will connect automatically. Works great with the Strava app and with my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. The charger is beautiful and easy to use. This is a small USB cradle that you just plug the OH1+ into. Cons: There is only one button on the OH1+ and it's pretty hard for me to press. You have to press it for quite a long time for it to respond, and at times I thought I'd turned it off, but it didn't because it wasn't pressed enough. I usually have to use my fingernail to get it to work. It takes some time to detect jumps in heart rate. I think that's one of the main advantages of the H10, which is that it's ECG based, while the OH1+ uses LEDs. This simply means that H10 detects changes in heart rate faster than OH1+. This isn't a big issue for me as I run/bike for a long time and a few seconds delay doesn't make much of a difference to what I'm doing. However, if you want the fastest readings, an ECG-based monitor will do better. The only thing I think could be noted is that when the OH1+ is on, it has an LED that blinks intermittently no matter what. It is not very noticeable during the day, but it can make you noticed at night. Whether that's good or bad, you can decide for yourself. But overall I am satisfied with the product and can recommend it.
