I have always used a harness with my dogs. With a halter I have more control and they don't choke when they pull. But it's been sooooo long since I had the puppy I have now. I bought him a halter but the puppy trainer said he would only teach him how to pull and he really needs to get a collar. "But he'll slip out," I said. "Then your collar isn't tight enough," she replied. I don't like tightening my dogs collars; For me, collars are really necessary just to keep the information tag in case it gets lost. But I saw her point out that he wasn't properly trained to walk on a leash. So I googled "human training collars" and they turned out to be a much needed alternative to choke or spike collars. This collar is perfect as you can adjust it to fit around the dog's neck without the dog's head slipping off or strangling the dog. My pup only wears it during training and his leash skills have greatly improved. The leather is nice and easy to put on, even with a moving pup.
