Review on Dell S2409W Widescreen Discontinued Manufacturer: High Resolution Wide Screen Display by Michael Cline

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor for the price.

A few things to keep in mind when purchasing this monitor: 1) This is a 24 inch LCD monitor for people on a budget. 2) It has an odd resolution for its size, 1920 x 1080 instead of the usual 1920 x 1200. 3) It doesn't have an adjustable height or the ability to rotate it to landscape or portrait mode. 4) There are no built-in speakers or USB ports. If you can ignore these 4 things then you will have a great monitor! Please keep in mind that I don't use it for high-end photography or video editing, nor do I play video games (I don't use the HDMI port), I connect it via the DVI port and mostly use it to watching tv/movies, resizing some photos here and there, surfing the internet and can safely say it all looks great! The brightness and contrast when you first get it is set unnaturally bright but for the amount I paid this is a great addition to my computer. One of the main things I really like about this monitor is how quickly it goes from standby to on mode. Pictures are crisp/colorful and videos look great. Not sure why Dell chose this, but the plastic material used to frame the front of the monitor is extremely shiny and scratches EASILY. Also, it collects dust like crazy, I highly recommend you take a 3M microfiber cloth or a good soft rag to wipe down the frame. I made the mistake of using a regular cloth and now there are scratches on the top and sides of my new monitor. :( If they just went with the regular matte black, that wouldn't be a problem, but I suspect they're trying to look more upscale. As I've only had this monitor for a week, I'll update my review again later with Any other issues/problems I might run into. But I like what I've seen so far. Hooray.

Pros
  • Full HD resolution
Cons
  • The monitor backlight is too bright.
