Fairly stiff but works well so far

I bought a 100ft roll with N connectors on both ends. It exits my office into the attic and then out onto a rooftop antenna about 15 feet high. Right now it just turns off and I had to add an N to UHF adapter for that (plus of course the adapters on the other end to go in the SDR key). A HUGE upgrade from the RG8x I previously had. I'm new to this and thought 8x would be fine. Flexible, easy to pull through walls and a 1.5" pipe that runs from the attic to the roof. But I later realized how much attenuation comes with the RG8x, and it's no surprise that I didn't pull much more than the cheap antennas that came with my dongle with this setup. So I gritted my teeth and bought this and drove the same route. Well, not exactly the same. I had to drill a new 7/8 inch hole from the attic into the wall frame. But with some lube I was able to get it through the hole in the roof along with the RG8x and some RG6. A bit tight for all that, but phew, finally got out, the 90 degree bend in the attic and the ridiculous 180 degree bend in the roof were pretty hard to do with the clutch in and I almost gave up, but I got it finally done The discone (which has a flat/zero gain) was there immediately, which previously seemed patchy. I'll probably ditch this discone setup for now, although I can hook up a low-noise amp in the attic about 20 feet from the antenna, or maybe even on a mast mount. I'll probably be replacing an unused RG8x with a dedicated 2M antenna - something with enough gain to compensate for 100ft of attenuation at 144MHz without the need for an amplifier. Once I get my license and start gearing, that's what I'll have to do I'll think of something else, but I'll take care of that later. Sure it's more/less hardcore than the official Times Microwave stuff, but for the price I don't care. I just need to figure out how to cut/strip/crimp some of my own connectors so I can add an LNA. I'm just assuming it has the same specs as the LMR400 in that regard, so we'll see how it fares.

Pros
  • FOR 50 OHM SYSTEMS: Suitable for any 50 ohm RF system including cell phone boosters and wifi repeaters. This 100-foot coaxial cable provides uninterrupted transmission of cellular signals from devices, repeaters, and other technology while significantly reducing signal loss.
