Back to the Future!

The Hecate GX07 headphones are the coolest true wireless headphones I've ever seen. The graphite gray body has such a futuristic finish that might be too much for some, but for me I really appreciate it. Just look at the pictures! Opening the trunk lid reminds me of a DeLorean. If that's not enough to make gamer headphones scream, the front bezel, rear bezel and RGB lighting make it very clear. Sharp-edged headphone designs can also be polarizing, as not everyone likes the bold-bar Bluetooth of the early 2000s. I wasn't entirely convinced at first, but after a while I started to embrace the design. What about functionality and performance? Well, I'm happy to report that the GX07 isn't just about looks. They are very easy to start. I was concerned they would wiggle due to the large stem, but by choosing the right size of tips, they held up well in my ears and never wiggled or fell out of my medium-sized ears, even while running. Of course they stick out a bit but I can live with that because I think they look pretty cool. GX07 are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, connect easily and cover a decent distance. In the default music mode, I noticed very little lag when watching videos or playing games. Game mode keeps the latency at 60ms, but to be honest it was hard to tell the difference unless you were actively looking for it. Battery life in the headphones is decent as I was able to get around 4.5 hours with ANC, RGB and around 70% volume. Fall adds 15 hours. According to Hecate, you can get up to 6.5 hours with headphones and 19.5 hours without turning off ANC and RGB. Not being used to listening to such long sessions, that was more than enough for me. A full charge via USB-C takes about 1 hour. and it has fast charging capability. Unfortunately, there is no Qi wireless charging. The RGB lighting in the case also serves as a battery remaining indicator, making it both stylish and functional. The touch controls work well and are responsive. Unfortunately, there's no way to remap them, and I was disappointed to see there's no volume control. Active noise-cancellation (ANC) isn't best-in-class, but it works well enough to drown out loud noises and low frequencies. So, no matter what environment I was in, I could enjoy what I was hearing. The ambient mode is also well implemented. Although not entirely natural, I could still clearly hear my surroundings. The call quality was acceptable. I was told it sounded loud and clear and had a bit of body, which many wireless headsets seriously lack. I noticed some ambient noise and wind noise, but nothing distracting. Of course, headphones aren't worth anything if they sound awful. So I was relieved to discover that these headphones support LHDC, AAC, and SBC audio codecs. 8mm drivers sound great. With properly selected gel tips and good sealing, the sound is warm and rich. Bass is strong, punchy, and has a long-lasting impact that doesn't distort or overshadow all other frequencies. The mids are crisp and not as deep, bringing vocals, percussion instruments and choruses to life. The highs reach high notes without being harsh or fatiguing. I would describe the sound as bright and immersive - great for watching movies. Now comes the H+ Special Game Sound Effects feature, which brings the mids to the fore and makes it easier to hear details while gaming. Excellent channel separation and soundstage also help. The icing on the cake is the Edifier Connect app, which allows for advanced settings, battery status, additional modes, RGB control, and ANC/Ambient levels. Again, there's no way to remap touch controls or have a full EQ that would make everything perfect. It's all wrapped in a very sleek holographic UI that's fun to tinker with. Ultimately, I'm really excited about the Hecate GX07 headphones. The Tron's futuristic '80s design is pure joy. For a nerd like me, these are dream headphones. In addition, they are packed with features and sound exceptionally good. Two futuristic 80s!
