Reminds me of spandex from the 1980's. There are no compression plates. I bought a medium size, I usually wear a size 4-6. Fits perfectly. However, I think they have shrunk a bit since I accidentally put the dryer in. I bought it for triathlon training and have only ridden it on my bike so far. I've only worn regular cycling training leggings before and I have to say the flat padding in these capris makes a huge difference! Not bulky like traditional cycling shorts. Haven't swum in it yet but the material is like a thin bathing suit so I think it will dry quickly.
