We used them for winter hiking and light mountaineering in New England winter conditions (snow, ice, and ice-covered snow). They worked great! Easy to put on, easy to take off, very durable and they do exactly what you expect them to. They make hiking on packed snow and icy surfaces easier. No more slipping, falling, dragging your dog on ice, etc. They also use a lot less energy to move with them because your feet don't slide like they do on sand, which happens when you don't slide. use them. Wearing them made me feel rock solid and confident from the gravel parking lot to the top of the mountain and back again. We easily crossed the icy water streams and easily scaled the exposed ice cliffs. Lug length is perfect for this activity (several inches of snow and moderate ice). If you just want to clear your driveway, you're better off using nano/micro spikes as they won't destroy the surface you're walking on and aren't superfluous. Sizing wise I went with Hillsound's hiking boot sizing guide and they fit perfectly. We love them and will definitely keep using them if the need arises.
