Review on N40 Celeron Fanless Computer Support by George Scoles

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Small size but great value - limited expansion potential

This is my second N40 NUC purchase from MINISFORUM and I'm happy with both. I rate this as the best solution in terms of value for money. What you get: Nice small form factor NUC loaded with Windows 10. Shorter HDMI cable (perfect for hanging this unit on the back of a monitor). Standard Monitor Mount Bracket Power Adapter If you are new to the world of NUC computers, this is a desktop computer with laptop hardware built in. I love the idea of using less power, less heat in my office and stepping into the realm of truly affordable computing. This computer is ideal for office tasks, spreadsheets, documents, web browsing, multimedia consumption, etc. It is not the best choice for graphics gaming, video processing, or other tasks that require a lot of CPU. The N4000 is a dual-threaded Celeron processor that is no longer the best of the bunch. However, the entire machine runs on less power than my last desktop PC's graphics card used alone. Likes: Small size. energy efficient. Doesn't heat up the desktop. HDD only (Windows quickly gobbles up half of it) Adding an SSD is limited to an "M.2 2242 NGFF SATA SSD" requirement of up to 1TB - plus many M.2 drives sold these days are NVMe and this will not work. Finding the right M.2 SSD is difficult. Memory is not expandable - what can you expect from such a small box? Would like to see a USB-C slot Summary: If you work remotely via a virtual machine or need a machine for basic tasks. Office tasks has fulfilled the promise of cheap computers. If your kids have to go to school remotely but don't want to buy them an expensive gaming console, this will work - if your kids are smart enough to enjoy games without graphics, they're more likely to do well in life anyway. At this price you can get 3 machines and use them for different home offices for less than $450.
