I was looking for the cheapest carrier to use as a transitional solution for our 7 month old Maine Coon mix (knowing she can grow a lot!). She is now about 6.5 years old. -7 pounds and this carrier is almost too small but likes to see both ends and the half zip on one side is nice. We helped her get used to the carrier by hiding toys and treats inside and she loved using it as a barrier. I'll probably be looking for a larger carrier soon, but I liked the soft construction because it folds up and doesn't bang my head on the hard plastic. Definitely a good option for a small cat/kitten or for short trips to the vet.
