Good Fit, Decent Sound Quality, No Bass

I consciously prefer not to spend more than $50 on headphones as they are regularly lost or broken (I use the same rule for sunglasses). I bought to replace a lost set of old JVC headphones (HAFX66A) which I really liked. My needs have changed a bit and I needed a pair that could walk and also have a built in mic for phone calls. My last two headphones (HA-FX66 and HA-FX34) were from JVC and I was very happy with them so I decided to give them a try. adjustment time) - stays in place - waterproof - mic and button work properly on iPhone6- mic works properly on Windows laptops CONS - limited bass - short cable is too short. with extension cord. too long. I can not directly compare these HA -ETR40s with my old JVC because they are probably all lost. However, I can compare them to my much older ME-M6P headphones which I somehow haven't lost in 6 years. I know for a fact that I preferred the sound quality of the older HA-FX66 over the ME-M6P. But when I compare the new HA-ETR40 to the ME-M6P, I prefer the ME-M6P mainly because of the lack of bass from the HA-ETR40. If the mic still worked on my ME-M6P I would just use it. Almost certainly the years of having these things (ME-M6P) in a laptop bag have taken their toll. Of course, limited bass is very subjective for each user. Depending on my mood and the task at hand, my taste in music ranges from country, rock, alternative, rap, techno and classical. Sitting in my quiet office with the HA-ETR40 earphones properly seated in my ears and fully sealed, the bass is there. Until I turn on the ME-M6P and realize that it really isn't. My "guess" here is that I personally prefer heavy bass and the ME-M6P is not properly balanced. But that's what I like. What really kills me is that since the bass is a bit weak when running, I usually keep the volume down and the headphones aren't fully on so I can still hear the sounds around me. This only makes the lack of bass more painful.
