Not so bad side table

I don't have high hopes when buying furniture like this. I know it better. But the fact that it's mostly wood and not just composites was a welcome change. Composite chipboard is the door insert, side inserts, back insert, drawer bottom and shelf. And they don't go well with real wood frames and tops. But I don't take this table to any auto show to look for a price. The product description states that it has all the necessary hardware and tools. The only tool I really needed was a Phillips screwdriver, which was not included. So make sure you have it on hand. I also used a rubber mallet and block for support because the drawer slides are wood and dowels and fit snugly. Place a rubber block on the front panel where the dowel is located and tap the back panel against the dowel location and the panels will sit on the dowels. There are also some wooden plugs to fill in some of the recessed screw holes. The screwdriver handle gave a good hit on these screws. I left the screws slightly loose and after everything was reassembled I pressed on the corners hoping to straighten them out. It didn't help as it wobbles a bit on a hard surface. Some neoprene underfoot pads fixed that. The description also states that the bottom shelf can hold 15 pounds. NO WAY. The composite panel is 3/16" and mounts only to 1/4" grommets on the left and right sides. NO central support. I put in a 10 pound and a 5 pound dumbbell to show the slack in that field. Assuming all that weight is in the middle. It still sags with less weight. I'll add some cross braces and call it good.

Pros
  • Self-assembly required; comes with the necessary tools and equipment
Cons
  • Long wait
