Bought this to keep my 3.5 year old busy. My intent was to use this to improve his focus, claw grip, and overall arm strength and coordination. This fully meets the requirements! The plastic canvas is sized just right for little hands and not too bulky. The needles are made of flexible plastic and there is a small plastic ball on the pointed end for safety, so they are not too sharp for children or beginners. Do not prick or puncture the skin with a needle. There are many interesting yarn colors to choose from. Not the highest quality scissors I've ever used but it does the job and again, Well suited for small hands to practice due to the style. I recommend teaching young children, even toddlers, the simplest basics of hand sewing. Consider this the first step and you can easily move on to needle stitch, cross stitch, etc. My only recommendation is to have a cheap needle threader handy (or the seller can include one in the kit) as threading can be difficult, especially for young children.
