They can be conveniently placed under bowls and plates in the microwave. Simply place under a plate or bowl in front of the microwave. They are surprisingly big enough to fit under all of my bowls and plates. They are lightweight and easily cleaned by spot cleaning or light machine washing and then line drying. They make the microwave safer to move food bowls. You don't have to try to make a regular turn safely. I liked them so much that I ordered more and even packed a pair in the camper.
