It's about what you would expect for the price and maybe a little bit better. Not very thick padding but better than traditional drawer mats. The underside has an eggcrate feel and the pads are thick enough for a small dog of no more than 8-10 pounds to feel a little spoiled. It's too small for a standard medium-sized wire box and leaves gaps, but you can tell by the dimensions of the product. I like a large bed that hugs the bars and doesn't leave room on the sides for legs or toys etc to go through the bars, but I have guest dogs that sometimes chew so I didn't want a super expensive bed for them . . If your dog runs through beds through chew holes etc, this would be a decent bed at a low price and easy to replace. If you have a lot of money, you can find a luxury upholstered bed at your local store for about $100, it will be much nicer. NOT secured so it ends up in a big bundle in the middle of the bed. I've flattened it a few times by pulling on the edges of the foam, but at this point it looks like there's a pyramid in the middle and I can't unwrap it without opening it. Washing hands prevents this. I only put two of these in the washing machine on the gentle cycle, but that's enough. The other brand of small beds doesn't, but this one is softer on all sides.
