Poor color rendering with dimming and asymmetrical dimming

Everyone in the family hates the look of these lamps and their dimming. I will take them out of the house and use them outdoors in non-dimmable circuits where their failures will be less of a problem. A CRI of 90+ can be accurate when operating these lamps at full brightness (not dimmed), but unfortunately the color quality degrades greatly when dimmed. The lamps dim the purple-blue light, which makes everything look unnatural. Typically, dimming a lamp by 2700 Kelvin results in a lower color temperature (more red), but these lamps do the opposite, raising the color temperature toward blue. Another problem is that Lutron dimmers are unbalanced. In order for the light to turn on the dimmer needs to be raised a lot more than a regular incandescent bulb needs and once the light is on the dimmer can be lowered and the light will dim fairly low before going out. This is a real nuisance for life. For those who haven't tried clear glass bulbs, you won't get the beautiful soft light that frosted glass bulbs offer. The light is blinding and harsh. There's even a warning not to look directly at the bulb. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find soft, matte G25 LED bulbs with high equivalent wattage, as these "Legacy" or "Edison" type clear glass bulbs have become prevalent.

Pros
  • Vintage style and wide application
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
