Works great on our very rusty well water

We have a BIG problem with iron (hence the rust) in our well water. I used this as directed, adding 1 cup to ยฝ gallon of water and then pouring it into the brine tank. (I had almost no salt at the time, so I poured it straight into the standing water, which was clearly visible at the time. If I hadn't seen the water, I would have poured it down the riser for maximum effectiveness. ) The Instructions call for the fabric softener to be manually topped up after adding that initial ยฝ gallon of solution, which is what I did. However, I still smelled rust in the water after the charge cycle was complete. The smell didn't go away until the second charge cycle was complete. You may or may not have the same need to charge, but just in case you can take advantage of the extra time without using water (if bypassing the softener at the same time isn't convenient). option as it is not for us). When I added more salt to our brine tank, I also layered ยผ cup of Rust Out on top of every 40 pounds of salt added. I spread it evenly over the salt, hoping for a more or less even incorporation of the chemical into the brine as it settles and dissolves. (I should note that I use this in combination with a resin cleaner (ResCare RK64N All-Purpose Water Softener Cleaner Liquid Refill, 64oz) and plain sun salt.) It's been about a week since I started this and it works noticeable improvement in our water. It tastes better and there are no visible rust spots on our showers and toilets yet. After years of hesitantly accepting rust in our lives, I call it a success. Rust Out will be a regular addition to our brine tank. WARNING: This is a fine powder that is EASILY airborne. The same applies to the similar product Iron Out. (They even smell the same.) I don't like inhaling it. I'm not sure about the effectiveness (let alone the need) of using this to remove rust from the lungs, but I'm not playing around to find out. To minimize the dust cloud, I water as briefly as possible when watering and DO NOT SHAKE. Hold the bottle as close to the measuring cup as possible and the measuring cup as close as possible to what you are pouring into. (I even take a deep breath while holding it.) When you're done, cover everything (bottle, brine container) so there's no dust.
