Have you noticed your belts falling apart after a year or two? I have. Belts are no longer made from a single piece of leather - just a thin layer of leather on the front of the belt, another on the back, and some sort of filler in the middle. Typically, at least for me, the back leather layer wears out after about a year, right in the most used holes. Sliding bands work differently. Instead of holes punched into the belt that secure with a buckle, the SlideBelt has a plastic ratchet built into and sewn into the back of the belt. The buckle engages the ratchet mechanism. There are no holes in the belt that could enlarge after wearing for a long time. Hopefully it will last a lot longer than the previous straps I've ordered. The buckle is solid, not bad, and looks very secure. Engaging the locking mechanism is as easy as you might expect. It just works. And works better than the traditional buckle. I'll order another one in black.
