I've experimented a little with using or not using this cream before lathering it up. My takeaways for using razors: 1. If you're new to shaving, this cream probably won't protect you from cuts while you're learning. If you know how to shave but aren't an expert (like me), this cream will help reduce cuts. I cut myself about once a week and when I get to work it's not visible. Without cream, I cut myself every two or three shaves.3. If you're a shaving expert and don't want to cut yourself anyway, you don't need this cut protection cream. However, you can use it as part of your skin care routine. In general I like this cream. The scent (tea tree) goes well with other Proraso products for sensitive skin, such as soap and aftershave. The scent isn't overpowering, so you can use whatever cologne and deodorant you like without worrying about conflicting scents. A tiny bit will cover your entire face so this jar will last a while - I've got a month in mine and I've barely used it. This is one of the few formulas for sensitive skin that makes my skin feel good without burning. I love it.
