Definitely better than most I've used; cheap ones with a hardened rubber loop that breaks easily, full neoprene braces that fray easily at the edges after a month or two of daily use, and rope braces from Chums that are nice because they're waterproof and strong, but the that we were looking for are non-adjustable so the tail just hangs at the back of the head when worn. doesn't look awkward because it washes easily when you put it on: moisture isn't so noticeable when you squeeze all the water out. It doesn't seem to have an odor like neoprene or other rubber-oriented holders, although that might just be because I haven't used it long enough. Durable: I wear glasses every waking minute and I wear retainers wherever I go. I wash them once a day before showering to keep them clean so the retainer has plenty of room to withstand this heavy use. That's why cheap ones break quickly and neoprene ones wear out quickly. I have been using these fastening straps since I first received them almost two months ago (02 OCT - 24 NOV 2014) and so far there has been no sign of breakage (see Cons section for more details). ). The grips on the ends of the strap are quite tight so it fits my glasses fairly well, but note that my glasses are thicker at the straps. I haven't tried it on those flimsy wire frames (anyone who would be wearing those flimsy bits anyway, wouldn't bother with fastening straps) No tail: As advertised, the tail doesn't hang around the back to tickle the throat. Cons: Heavy compared to the neoprene, cheap chums braces and rope braces I have. This fixer is used on the heavier side, and then it's not wet. This means that if you have lighter frame glasses they weigh your glasses down as you move and this can be a problem for some. The grips are very effective so try not to put them on frames that already have non slip grips to keep the goggles from slipping off your face, it can be done but it took me a hell of a long time to put mine on. If you're wondering why I even bother when I already have non-slip grips on my goggle straps, it's because I prefer buckle security. Kevlar has a lot of microfilaments sticking out, so it doesn't look smooth, it's not visible from a distance, but anyone at arm's length can see small bits of thread. You can smooth it out with water, but that won't do once it dries. I've tried burning it but it discolors the area the flame touched and still leaves visible threads. I'm currently wearing the one I burned, the retainer definitely has less visible microstrands and no signs of curling either, but I won't wear it while I have another retainer. The good news is that it's fireproof. Some of the discoloration will wash off along with the smell, just apply some soap but compare it to one you haven't burned and you'll notice the difference. Structural integrity remains uncompromised in my "handling," but that's probably because I didn't hold the flame on it for more than a second (I used a butane torch, which might be stupid of me - be careful with the one handling fire).
