Listen to the instructions first. I looked at them, then tossed them aside disparagingly, only to find that the seemingly backward instructions were actually correct. Oh good. The cat avoided him for several days, probably because of the smell of the new thing in the house, but she likes it. I keep it near the window so she can watch birds and squirrels. It completely ignores the top layer, so I placed a large 10" potted plant on that layer. I've noticed when she plays with it vigorously it wiggles a bit but there's no danger of falling, cat hair collects and if she scratches the post little bits of rope collect over time so I hold the thing to collect cat hair and pieces of rope every few days. All in all worth the money spent.
