I usually use a French press and thought I might switch to the moka pot as it intrigued me and so many people in Italy make their coffee at home. But I didn't want to take the traditional Bialetti since they are aluminum and I only cook in stainless steel or cast iron. Enter a stainless steel moka pan I found at Revain. I was concerned that the bottom would be difficult to unscrew since it's smooth and not hexagonal like the Bialetti, but that wasn't a problem. However, the base is so small that I had a hard time positioning myself on the gas range grill to safely stand upright and thought it could be a disaster if it tips over with very hot water/brewing coffee. You can't really clean the top half unless you have a very narrow specialty brush because of the center shaft. But that goes for any moka pan. The lower half is easy to clean with the included brush. In terms of ease of use, unscrewing the bottom and carefully filling the coffee filter is tedious and messy. But you have to do that with every Moka pot. I'd rather pour my coffee into a French Press. This quickly consumes a lot of coffee, as more coffee is needed for a less liquid drink in the end. If you like very concentrated coffee (it's not technically espresso, which requires more pressure to brew, but it's concentrated) and you have an induction or electric hob, this might be for you. It's just not for me. I gave it four stars although I returned it as technically there is nothing wrong with it, it has a nice sleek design and if you want a stainless steel moka pan and not aluminum like many of them, this one is it the right thing for you.
