Review on Canon VIXIA HF G50 Camcorder by Bobby Blanton

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not as bad as some say.

I chose this as an upgrade for my HF G30 as I wanted to dive into the 4K pool. I considered the Sony AX700 as I used to have Sony camcorders but I valued the 4K60 more than the S-Log. I was also more familiar with Canon's menu system. The Canon microphone that I already bought for the G30 also works with the GX10. Anyway, I haven't shot much footage yet, but so far so good. I played with the camera in low light conditions. It was loud, but I got it to +38 dB. The daytime shots I took look beautiful. The battery lasted all day even though I didn't shoot continuously. I had to upgrade the processor and graphics card on my editing PC (HP Z420) before I could work with video files. (4K 60 at 150Mbps). The Wi-Fi remote has more options than my G30. I like Canon's improvements. I shot a bit in Wide DR, I don't think I'll miss C-log for my purposes, but I wish Canon would add that (and 10-bit 4:2:2 too. 8-bit external 4: 2:2 is enough) I like the built in ND filters I'll probably post an update on this test later when I have more time with the unit Everything is going well.
