My 2 year old son is overpronating and we were looking for supportive shoes to fix the problem. These shoes quickly became my son's favorite pair of running shoes and although we noticed some improvement after about a month we booked an appointment with the podiatrist for a professional opinion and my son wore them to the appointment. The doctor was impressed by these sneakers and admitted that he did not know this version (v5). He usually recommends parents the other New Balance 990 (version 3) shoes, but he thinks they're better for little kids because of the overall quality and the Velcro closure. He said the most important things to look for in a pronated shoe is good arch support, a thick heel, strong ankle support and a wide toe box. I have attached an image for reference. While these shoes are very comfortable and can often correct mild cases of pronation, my son required custom orthotics (which were perfect for this shoe once the original insoles were removed). My son wears a size 8 in all shoes and they fit true to size. I hope my review will be useful to those considering a purchase.
