Basically I got what I expected but it's still a three star product no matter how you slice it. The "bulbs" surrounding the LEDs scatter the light nicely with a glassy appearance rather than a matte finish, but the diodes themselves are very mottled in color. They're all in the "warm white" range, it's not like they're mixed with "cool white" bulbs, but especially when you first take them out of the box and light them up while they're still in the kit , It is very evident that the color of the light emitted varies, probably somewhere between 2000k and 4000k. It's not very noticeable when they're hung, but keep in mind that that's probably also an indication of the sheer quality of the lamps Sylvania is able to produce on test. Another issue is related to the way the LEDs are connected. Firstly if you lose a bulb you lose the entire chain because they are all connected together, not even the nested bulbs on separate filaments as you can see with some of the prettier types. They also don't seem to have fuses in their bulbs - some bulbs will melt a blown bulb together so the filament stays lit, and you can then just replace the bulb the next time you check to see if it's blown ones. . Anyhow, if one of them fails, you will have a very difficult time figuring out which bulb has failed, as you will have to check each one until you find the right one. At least the plug has a fuse for safety and they include a spare fuse and two spare bulbs in the box but with these inferior bulbs I question the durability. The worst is the flickering. Your mileage may vary, I know some people don't notice it at all or barely, but these filaments, like many other cheap AC LED strings, use half wave rectification. That means the lights are constantly flickering 60 times per second and literally "turning off" more than half the time. Now the diffusers help a little and the further away you are from them the less noticeable it is, but it's definitely an issue that some might send them back. Low quality LEDs really make flicker worse too - you can reduce flicker even without full wave rectification if you have quality diodes, even more so with capacitors and resistors. If you have really good eyesight and tend to notice lighting issues or details that other people don't see, you may miss them. At $7.99 with a dangling eye, they're good enough for me, but they would be unacceptable for any other application.
