Review on Salomon Trail Running Shoes Black by Brendan Thorpe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect trail running shoe

The Salomon Speedcross 4 WP version has quickly become my favorite outdoor shoe. They offer superior traction and comfort for everything from short day hikes to ultramarathons. The fit, like the previous incarnation of the Speedcross 3, is a little tight for me. I wear a 9 in most other shoes, but I'll take a 9.5 in this model. There is a slight difference in feel between the non-waterproof SC4 and the WP SC4. I found this version to be a bit stiffer on all sides and has a longer rest time. The top of the tongue is sewn into the shoe body differently, making it difficult to access the pocket where you store your laces. This wasn't a problem, however, as Salomon's lacing system never seems to have needed adjustment. The lower profile is definitely better than previous models. The tips appear to be more aggressively spaced and deeper. The Speedcross tread length is relatively short compared to competing trail runners, but the grip is unmatched. I run mixed terrain 3-4 days a week and change my shoes every few months. All in all, this is a 5 star trail running and hiking shoe that is worth every dollar!
