Review on 🎡 TDK D90 Cassette Tape by Denise Rivera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good signal to noise ratio when Dolby B/C is used and levels are not too high

I just got Chick Corea Electric Band - Light Years recorded on tape TDK Dynamic Power High Power Type I which I recently purchased from my local Goodwill store. I had previously ordered a number of Maxell XL IIs because I figured I really needed Type II tapes, just like a few years ago. But now I'm amazed that these TDK cartridges work just as well! And for much less money! I just got back to using cassettes after 12+ years because I found an 'old' Technics cassette deck at my local Goodwill store for a whopping $8! I've decided to record some vinyl that I've collected over the past two months or so to listen to in the car or on my motorbike. I also found some of these sealed TDK cassettes in brand new condition so I grabbed those too. Anyway, I first recorded some vinyl and a CD on an old, unused Maxell XL II that I found in my desk drawer. just to test the "new" cassette deck. It went down great so I ordered more through Revain. I then decided to record the album, which I knew was going to be a hard hitting and powerful album, on one of the TDK cassettes I had received earlier, just to see how well they would do. I was surprised! To my surprise, the signal to noise ratio was excellent and the sound was rich and clear! When recording, I used Dolby B encoding. I could hear background noise between songs. However, I could only hear it when I turned up the volume! At normal playback volume, there was no background noise at all! And that when listening with headphones (Beyerdynamic DT880/600 Ohm). Headphones are like a microscope; if there is something to hear, they will hear it! I didn't hear anything but music at a normal volume, and I didn't hear anything between songs! This means that these cassettes work absolutely perfectly in noisy environments like a car and especially a motorcycle! Heck, they work great when I'm listening to them on headphones in my own living room! I was so impressed with the performance of the TDK that I canceled the Maxell order I previously placed and will be ordering it now!

Pros
  • Low noise finish helps provide excellent signal to noise ratio for high quality playback
Cons
  • Reliability
