I have wider hips than most people so I wanted a pair of swim shorts that were just roomy enough for me and didn't feel tight against my skin. They were more than my legs need. They also tended to flap when swimming. I went on water slides and didn't have to carry them at all because they went up while I returned to the top of the slide. But the waist was perfect for me, but I wouldn't recommend them if you have a little extra upper body area and plan on swimming with them.
