I bought this scratching post for my adult kitten who weighs about 6 pounds. She loves to climb and loves to scratch and since we moved to a smaller space she doesn't have many places to climb much. Even after reading all the previous reviews, I decided to purchase this product because I *actually* read the product description, which most other buyers don't seem to have done. Exterior: Beige is a bit closer to ivory but certainly looks great in our living room corner with wood laminate and cream walls. It's not a terrible eyesore like many scratching posts and they'll sit out of the way very well. However, be careful when you open the box for the first time. You will have little bits of ivory rug all over the place when unpacking and assembling. Get your vacuum cleaner ready! Assembly: It took me 5-10 minutes to put everything together. It comes in 10 pieces (not including the hardware and the hex key which also appears to be included) and the instructions clearly show how to assemble the piece. Function: My cat is not quite normal. At first she wanted nothing to do with this strange new beast invading her home. However, a little catnip rubbed on poles and platforms quickly made her her new best friend! She weighs around 6 pounds (maybe a bit more) and although she is a bit long for climbing from level to level, she likes to jump onto higher platforms and crawl into a small alcove. She also seems to be good at scratching poles. For those who have complained that their 11lb, 20lb or Maine Coon (!) cats can't play safely: It's because the item description clearly says it's for a 'small cat'. Last time I checked, 20 pounds definitely didn't qualify a cat as "small." 11 pounds is pretty muscular too. At around 6 or 7 pounds mine can play with it just fine. She is almost 11 years old and loves the mouse-like creature hanging from the top platform. There's no noticeable wobble when sitting on or off a plane of the structure, and it doesn't rest against the wall, and I didn't add any extra support or weight. A previous reviewer said that it appears to flex when a person leans on it. Well, it's not intended for *people* to play with, so I wouldn't recommend relying on it for support either. But when your kitty gets tired, they'll love to play or rest on the soft, silky carpet inside this scratching post. Overall, this is great for a growing kitten (though not too small) or *a cat. The carpet is soft and silky, and the structure is durable. If your cat doesn't seem too keen on it at first, try rubbing and sprinkling some catnip on it and then sitting your cat on it. They will be in love and you will enjoy watching them play.
