My iPhone 8 with Otterbox Comuter case fits snugly but is not that difficult to remove. A larger case (like the Otterbox Defender) will not fit. That's too much for a phone without a case. The magnet on the valve is strong. This is not suitable for headphones connected to the Lightning connector. Although there is extra space between the phone and the top of the lid, it still compresses the cable so it will eventually break. The clip on the belt is quite strong, sometimes it's difficult to hook it on the belt, but I like it. It's very unlikely to be ripped off my belt (which has been an occasional issue with a similar but different brand I've been using with my iPhone 5 for the past 4 years). Just don't plan on flipping it to a horizontal position. The clip looks and feels like it will break if you try to rotate it. Also, the cover may accidentally open. I doubt the phone will fall out after that, but I'm not sure. If you want to carry a horizontal holster, buy another one.
