This was my first ratchet strap as all my previous straps have been slotted standard straps. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the belt, but if you've never used this type of belt, there are two important things. To mark. First, lay the tape next to the old tape to determine the length to cut, but don't cut the entire length the first time. Cut only half way to determine how thin the cut your scissors will make as the leather is tough. I have found that I need more powerful clippers to get a sharp and clean cut. Second, make sure you understand how the trigger mechanism works before putting the belt on. It's easy if you know how, but if you don't you'll be in trouble when I tried to pull the buckle. Pull out the latch, and then pull out the strap. The buckle itself is tight, and this is where I stumbled. Be sure to familiarize yourself with how the buckle works before you put on the belt.
