My son was in need of a new pair of low-cut, waterproof hiking boots for scouts, and these really seem to fit his needs. I picked the grey/black boots with the red striping and they look sharp. The box looks fancy and the boots were nicely arranged inside, with tags attached showing the features. I like how they have a waterproof liner. I usually prefer Gore-Tex waterproof technology, but I've had good luck with other brands of similar products like this SC-TEX stuff. There was no strong plastic smells from the boots, which is good, and they came with an extra set of laces, which surprised me. The soles have a nice, somewhat aggressive tread and the top of the boots is nice. There are two rows of metal lacing lugs on the top of each boot, and the tongue comes up high for the waterproof bootie inside. My son is breaking them in now, and said that they fit true to size. He said that initially the left insole felt a little odd, but after wearing them around for the day, it felt better. He walked outside in the rain through a few puddles and his feet stayed dry, but that's not a conclusive waterproof test.I couldn't resist trying them on myself, since we both wear size 12 for now, and I thought that they felt good on my feet. Maybe I will swipe them from his if he grows out of them before wearing them out. But then again, do I want to wear boots after a teenage boy has sweated in them for weeks? :)
