Review on Aluratek 8 Inch LCD Digital Photo Frame - Auto Slideshow USB/SD/SDHC - Black by Raymond Gray

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This device will give you a good return on investment!

I bought three of these devices for Christmas gifts (including one for myself). My five star rating is based on the fact that I'm fully aware that this isn't the best digital photo frame because I've done my research; So my expectations were already put into perspective. After reading the reviews I was a little hesitant to buy as they were quite mixed. However, due to the fact that it is a cheaper model, this device offers you good value for money. The initial setup was easy. The photo quality of the display is quite good for a budget model. I uploaded photos from my computer to the SD card (16GB) (only a portion of the space occupied with 200+ photos). At some point I will buy a nanodisk and upload photos to it simply because I like this way of storage better. The device also came with a mini USB cable for direct connection to a computer for downloading images. It also packs 512MB of onboard storage (that's actually 3GB), but I seriously doubt I'll be using it. The only issue I had was photos not displaying properly in portrait mode. The device allows you to rotate it with the remote control for the current display. It is not saved, however, and the next time you cycle through the photo, it will revert to its original viewing mode. To solve this problem, I download a free JPEG converter (lossless JPEG converter) to make sure the photos on the storage device (e.g. jump drive, storage device) are in the right display mode. This resolved the issue and kept the photos in the correct display format. While the device doesn't have a motion sensor, it does have a timer to turn the device on and off based on the time and day (remember this is a junior model). It was a good gift not only for me, but also for those I gave it to, he was delighted too. (Tip: upload some great photos before gifting it.) It has a few features I wasn't expecting, but they're great little additions. Alarm clock, calendar, clock. For a lower-level digital frame, it does everything it advertises and more. If your expectations are set correctly for what you are buying, you will not be disappointed with this device.
