Review on Deuter Futura Vario Midnight Steel Outdoor Recreation for Camping & Hiking by Wendell Chapman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than Osprey, Gregory and all the big brands

I have no idea why this pack isn't so well known or talked about! After visiting REI several times and never really liking any of the packs I tried on, I felt like settling for something just ahh. REI had several Deuter packages but I never knew this one existed. It's incredibly better designed than either of the base packages from Osprey and Gregory, and significantly cheaper for a lot more features. I thank the German engineers and this company for putting all this in one package. The mesh and curved frame preventing the backpack from touching your back is a blessing because instead of being a sweaty mess, all I had to deal with was my shoulders getting sweaty under the straps. The foldable design and wide straps allow you to use the backpack comfortably even if it is not half full. Also, I love the outside pockets in general and I'm so glad this backpack has so many pockets and zippers on the outside. I've used this backpack twice already on weekend trips and I feel like I did my best. Buying my young adult life. I expect this pack will last for decades as quality and functionality were important factors in the development of this pack. I tip my hat to Deuter for not breaking the bank and just making a backpack that will blow everyone away. Another note for ultralight backpackers: yes, this pack is heavier than its competitors, but the frame is so well constructed with mesh tensioning. a system that actually feels 10 pounds lighter simply because the weight is better distributed from the shoulders to the hips. prizewinner.
