Review on FYY Leather Case with Apple Pencil Holder: Protective Flip Folio Stand for 2019 iPad Air 3 & 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 inch - Magenta by Chad Myers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good case and price, but problems with the wake/sleep function.

There weren't many cases with a pen holder and sleep/wake function. I only received it two days ago and I have to say that it is very well made. Sturdy and thick enough to protect iPad 10.5 when dropped. The stitching and material feels and looks like quality craftsmanship and materials. The position of the pen holder is perfect. I saw another case where the pen holder was on the side but was blocking the volume controls. The sleep/wake function worked great. The magnetic closure is quite strong. The elastic grip tape is currently flush with the case, but it feels like it will stretch with prolonged use and can become an issue when trying to keep the case flat when closed. The elastic strap allows me to securely hold the case when using it standing up. I don't actually use credit card slots, but that's a well-established feature. The case stays in place for desktop display and is non-slip. The material inside is soft and doesn't seem to scratch the iPad's glass. However, I will install screen protectors when available. As shown in the picture, there is a wrist strap that can be clipped on and off. They seem strong and durable. The only major issue is that the ledge that holds the iPad in place is a bit wider on the left. When using Safari, I can't swipe all the way to the left to click the close-X. I need to turn my iPad to landscape or use a stylus. The right edge is trimmed perfectly so you can meet the final xs that are on the right side. Cutouts for charging, speakers, volume, microphones, headphones, power button and camera are perfect. There are two oval cutouts in the top corners of the ledge that holds the iPad that don't appear to have any function. Shipping was fast and was sent in a bubble envelope. I love my new case and my new iPad Pro! Update July 3, 2017: When I received this case, screen protectors for iPad Pro 10.5 were not yet available. I just received and installed the screen protector and the Wake/Sleep.Lock/Unlock feature has stopped working. The iPad is held in place by a thin strip of leather. With the additional tread depth of 0.33mm, the wake/sleep magnet is not strong enough to work properly. I contacted the company to see what can be done to resolve the issue. The company stated that there was nothing it could do but use the information for future developments; and return the case via Revain. I really like the case so I did my own research and found that the two holes in the top edge of the case are where the magnets that control the wake/sleep function are located. So I took a thin magnetic strip from a mini fridge calendar, cut it to fit the hole and stuck it in with the magnetic side facing the iPad. I have found that you only have to fill in the hole on the left to get the wake/sleep function to work again. So far, the thin magnetic strip isn't strong enough to trigger wake/sleep mode when the case is open and in use. If so, I'll update this review again. I'm lowering my rating by 1 star due to the company's quick response to the lack of any action and use of weak magnets. I used a strong magnet to find the magnets in the case and it turns out there are 5 magnets. 3 out of 5 were weak magnets. Updated 08/27/17. I would like to downgrade my rating to 2 1/2. After two months of regular use, the Smart Case function began to cause problems. As mentioned earlier, I placed a piece of magnet in the open hole at the top edge. It doesn't help anymore. Further research online revealed that the sleep activator magnet is actually on the right edge of the iPad; right below the volume buttons. So I'm not sure why adding that tiny piece of magnet to the hole worked earlier, but I removed it. Now I have to align the lid perfectly and press really hard for the smart case feature to work. Too complicated. I refused to work smart case. However, after regular use, the housing cover has loosened/stretched and has slipped a bit. This allows the magnet in the lid to move with the iPad Smart Case Activator. I had battery drain issues and found that sometimes sliding the lid would turn on the iPad (if it was closed/covered). Because the magnet isn't strong enough to penetrate the leather lining of the case, putting money or credit cards in the pocket will increase the distance between the case and the iPad. So bags are useless if the function of a smart case is important to you. I still think it's a nice case, but due to the battery drain issue mentioned above, I'll have to find another case.
