Essential for quilters

This is a fun little tool that I use regularly. Firstly, it is ideal for changing the needle on a sewing machine. Just put the needle in the hole at the top and you can use the rest of the cane to hold it in place while you slide the needle into place. Latch the new needle and pull the stick down and off the needle. Please! New needle in place and no puncture wounds (I used to have a Band Aid next to the car). The secondary purpose of this handy tool is to help you finish heavy seams. I used it all the time last year when I was making face masks. When I did the top seam on the final stage, my car was bound to have trouble cornering. He paused at the racks, the needle bouncing up and down, but the fabric didn't move. We've all been through that. You simply use it as a wedge, lift your leg, place the cane behind and under your leg, and then lower it. Sew as you normally would, and as you go through the heavy stitching, the tube is gradually pushed out of the fabric. You can use objects other than wedges (a plastic fork with a few inner prongs removed is fine), but this fork was made for the job and is a steal. Do yourself a favor and add this to your sewing kit.

Pros
  • Sewing
Cons
  • Easily torn
